Religious Education
Our RE Leader is Mrs E Ford.
Religious Education is the core curriculum subject in our school, making up at least 10% of the total curriculum time.
We follow the Birmingham Diocesan curriculum, 'Discerning Disciples' beginning in September 2026. Children are taught the curriculum from the Nursery class up to Year 6. Each unit builds upon children's prior learning from the previous year and enables progression of knowledge, understanding and skills to develop children's understanding of our Catholic faith. Children are given opportunities to learn in a wide variety of creative ways, including learning through studying Bible stories, guided mediations, reflections, prayer, liturgy, art, drama, etc.
The Discerning Disciples curriculum consists of six branches. These are:
Branch 1: Creation and Covenant
Branch 2: Prophecy and Promise
Branch 3: Galilee to Jerusalem
Branch 4: Desert to Garden
Branch 5: To the Ends of the Earth
Branch 6: Dialogue and Encounter
Assessment:
All children are assessed at the end of each branch using the Diocesan Knowledge assessment by Multiple Choice Quizzes (MCQ's), as supplied by the Diocese towards the end of each half term. Assessment scores are uploaded onto a Diocesan Excel spreadsheet.
Samples of work are moderated throughout the year, both at school and collegiate level, to ensure consistency in RE assessment.
